Yesterday marked a remarkable day for Catania Cruise Port, with the simultaneous arrival of three cruise ships:
National Geographic Orion (Lindblad Expeditions) – maiden call
Sea Cloud II
Marella Explorer II
The port was buzzing with activity as the three vessels docked, showcasing Catania’s growing reputation as a key destination in the Mediterranean cruise circuit.
A special highlight of the day was the maiden call of the National Geographic Orion, an expedition vessel operated by Lindblad Expeditions. The occasion was celebrated on board with the traditional crest exchange ceremony, attended by Raffaella Del Prete, General Manager of Catania Cruise Port, and representatives of the ship’s command and crew.
“We are proud to welcome the National Geographic Orion for the first time,” said Del Prete. “This maiden call is not only a symbol of growing trust in our port’s capabilities but also a recognition of Catania as a destination rich in culture, nature, and unique experiences.”
The choice of Catania as a port of call reflects its strategic location, operational efficiency, and the unique appeal of Sicily’s eastern coast—ranging from Mount Etna’s volcanic landscape to the vibrant city life and historical charm.
With calls from premium and expedition cruise lines on the rise, Catania Cruise Port continues to affirm its role as a reliable and attractive hub for diverse cruise itineraries.
